Enhancing the Driver Experience - Logistics Park Chicago Sequencing Process Update
Sequencing Update
BNSF is implementing a new driver sequencing process on June 24, creating a safer and more fluid environment with less congestion near the track and reducing the need for drivers to get out of their trucks for crane operators to locate them. This new process will streamline container flow during higher lift demand times by having drivers wait for their container within the intermodal facility until a transfer spot is available adjacent to the requested container. Once an appropriate transfer spot is available, the driver will be prompted to proceed to the appropriate location via RailPASS.
By following the RailPASS instructions, the driver will be informed when to proceed to their assigned transfer spot. Likewise, the crane operator will have clearer visibility into the location of the driver to load their container more efficiently. As part of this process, utilizing the RailPASS mobile app will be essential.
New Sequencing Process:
- After the driver successfully completes their Ingate transaction at the kiosk:
- Container Drop Off: For RailPASS users, parking assignment will display on the RailPASS app. For non-RailPASS users, instructions will be displayed on the Driver Assistance Building (DAB) kiosk.
- Container Pick Up: The driver will be required to request a container pick-up lift via RailPASS or DAB kiosk. It is important that a lift request is submitted from only RailPASS or kiosk, not both.
- If a transfer spot is unavailable, RailPASS will display a message indicating to stage within the LPC facility.
- RailPASS will alert the driver when a spot has been assigned and they can proceed to the assigned transfer spot.
- Drivers will be sequenced in order based on request time and availability of spots under the crane.
- If a driver chooses not to use RailPASS, they will need to go to the DAB where a monitor will display notifications to the driver when their transfer spot is available.
- Note: Drivers will need to follow instructions from RailPASS or the kiosk explicitly as listed, as the crane operator will not have a work order to process a truck until a truck spot is assigned.
To stay up-to-date with the latest information, new and current RailPASS users should download the latest version through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
If you have any questions about this new process, please utilize the Message Us feature on the BNSF Customer Portal (must be registered/logged in to access) or contact BNSF Customer Support at 1-888-428-2673.
Coming Soon: Stack Pickup Appointment System
BNSF is piloting a stack pickup appointment system at LPC in preparation for deployment later this year. This process will enable appointments to be made based on planned pickup times to improve driver efficiency and turn times while entering and exiting the facility.
BNSF will have additional support teams on-site at LPC from June 19 – 21 to assist drivers with downloading RailPASS and answering questions about the app and the upcoming stack pickup appointment system process.
Another communication will be distributed with further details prior to cutover.
