Hurricane Beryl Impacting Houston Operations

Tropical Storm Beryl is currently projected to make landfall south of Houston, Texas, as a hurricane on Monday morning. The storm is expected to begin bringing rain, as much as 10 inches in some areas, and intensifying winds this evening. In preparation, BNSF has begun restricting operations in its Houston Complex which spans 60 square miles and includes five rail yards, where teams are working to fortify and secure all rail yards as well as the trains that are holding in the region. Ingates at BNSF Pearland Intermodal Facility in Houston are no longer being accepted.

We have activated an around-the-clock command center, and our operating teams have pre-positioned track equipment and supplies, including fuel cells, generators and ballast, at various locations to quickly address any impacts to the network as power outages and flooding are expected. Beginning at 4 pm CST today, BNSF will stop operating trains south of Temple or Teague on Galveston and Houston Subdivisions into the Houston Region or through the Houston Belt & Terminal Railway.

The current operational restrictions, including yard closures and ingates at Pearland, are expected to remain in place until 12 pm CST on Monday unless conditions allow an earlier opening. Customers with shipments expected to move through the Houston region should expect delays and extended transit times over the next several days.
