Improving Truck Drivers’ Experience at BNSF
BNSF is making enhancements to streamline the driver drop off and pick up process for faster turn times at our facilities and to enable a more efficient supply chain.
Through different forums, BNSF has received feedback about some of the challenges truckers face operating at our intermodal facilities. In response to that feedback, throughout 2023, the BNSF team engaged with Dialexa, an IBM company specializing in building digital products focusing on world-class digital experiences. Through this process, we conducted research panel interviews and participated in ride-a-longs with drivers in our intermodal facilities across our network to understand truck drivers' challenges. As a result of the research findings, multiple opportunities surfaced to improve the driver experience at our intermodal facilities, streamline the driver drop-off and pick-up process for faster turn times and enable a more efficient supply chain, including:
- Making the driver pickup process more efficient for all parties
- Increasing the usability of the RailPASS mobile app by adding new features and making it easier to navigate
- Supporting drivers’ ability to resolve exceptions quickly with less touch points
From this feedback, we’ve made several enhancements within RailPASS and are pleased to see more than 1,000 drivers have subscribed or begun using the new functionality available now:
- Increase awareness for your dispatchers by setting up multiple email addresses to automatically email your J1 transactions through Automatic J1 forwarding
- Search faster through empty lists by lot and nearest spot through Empty list search
- Access self-help information to understand the current status of your container through Unit Status Tool tips
For both new and current users, please download the latest version through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.
We’ll continue to keep you updated on the latest information about these initiatives in the upcoming weeks and months.
