Lumber and Panel LOGs Auction Beginning Monday, December 2, 2024

Date
Nov 15, 2024

BNSF is pleased to announce that, beginning Monday, December 2, 2024, guaranteed equipment and placement of centerbeam flats, bulkhead flats and a limited number of boxcars will be offered for the 52-week permit shipping period beginning February 3, 2025, through BNSF's Loading Origin Guarantees (LOGs) Program.

The auctions will be held Monday, December 2, 2024, (10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. CST), and Monday, December 9, 2024, unless all available equipment has been allocated.

Based on equipment availability, BNSF may offer additional LOGs capacity for shorter time periods, such as 13-week and 4-week permits, after the first of the year.

The following list highlights the key features of the 2025 BNSF LOGs Program:

  • The LOGs Rollover Program is being discontinued and will not be offered for the upcoming 52-week LOGs period.
  • The annual flex of -5% is being removed for 52-week permit holders. All permits will be required to meet their full LOGs commitment with exceptions for holidays and force majeure situations.
  • The weekly ordering flex percent is being reduced to +/-0% with 0-car minimum flex.
  • LOGs penalty amounts will remain equalized for all permits LOGs penalty amounts will remain equalized for all permits (BNSF failure remains at $200 per car for late cars filed through the LOGs Claims application; LOGs permit owner shortfall penalty remains $200 per car including 52-week permits).
  • The 7-digit alphanumeric permit number must be shown on the Bill(s) of Lading. The number of eligible Bill(s) of Lading submitted showing the LOGs permit number during the LOGs period will be used to determine the shortfall. Eligible shipments must be rated with a BNSF-published price authority. BNSF will only recognize a shipped car as a qualifying LOGS move if it is billed out on a BNSF-published document.

Notice impacting all LOGs permit holders regarding the weekly process which notifies permit holders each Wednesday of any un-filled LOGs orders from the prior week:
BNSF is in the process of switching the action available to permit holders from “cancelling” the order to “extending” the LOGs order and no response by the deadline will now result in automatically “cancelling” the LOGs order. The change should be completed by February 2025, and BNSF will send a separate communication once the exact date of the change is scheduled.
