Working to Normalize Service on the Southern Transcon

Date
Apr 29, 2024

BNSF service on the Southern Transcon, our primary route between Southern California and the Midwest, has been restored as of yesterday afternoon. As we reported, a train derailment near the Arizona-New Mexico state line, approximately 22 miles southwest of Gallup, NM, affected our main track. Both our first and second main tracks opened yesterday, April 28, with the second opening at 06:30 p.m. CT and the first opening at 9:45 p.m. CT.

We are working to quickly reduce the number of trains held and rebalance equipment flows and resources. To help accelerate recovery, we have sent additional response teams to the area and have 24/7 command centers coordinating key resources. With a significant number of trains affected by the outage, customers with shipments designated to move through this corridor should expect service to continue to improve and fully normalize over the next week to ten days.

If you have questions regarding a shipment(s), please utilize the Message Us feature on the BNSF Customer Portal (must be registered/logged in to access) or contact BNSF Customer Support at 888-428-2673.
